SuperBowl Sunday

It's that time again. One of the biggest sports holidays of the year. People gather in bars and living rooms with beer and pizza and scream at the athletes on television to do better than they are currently doing. Men get aggravated at the women in the room because they tend to talk and ask questions during crucial parts of the game. Women get aggravated at men because they tend to splash beer all over the place in their excitement.

This year the Green Bay Packers face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Songs have been created on the subject, and many a newspaper article has been written. Apparently neither team has cheerleaders, to the dismay of horny men all over the country. I have no stake in either team really, GB knocked the NY Giants out of the running and the Steelers knocked the Jets out. My team choice has nothing to do with team loyalty this year.

Ben Roethlisberger is leading the Steelers into the Superbowl in hopes of adding a seventh victory to their record. Aaron Rodgers will be leading the Packers to a hopeful fourth SuperBowl Victory.

I will be rooting for the Packers today. They are the underdogs and my roommate is a Steelers fan so I feel the need to go against him. In reality, though, I'm just going to enjoy having friends over. That's what football, and all sports, really are to me. An excuse to get everyone in the same room for a couple hours.

Go Packers!

Kilts and Corsets

Allison previously mentioned festivals as a great part of October in post grad life. She is completely right. This past weekend I went to the Renaissance Festival, and the weekend before I attended the National Book festival. I must say the Ren Fest was a little better. So many costumes and weapons and beer and hard cider and jousting. There is fun for everyone! Unless you're the wench everyone is trying to drench.

Last weekend's Ren Fest theme was Celtic Music. So in honor of the Medieval Times and Celtic music, here is some DropKick Murphy's for you all to enjoy.

Beer Popsicles

This recipe was just brought to my attention because of the genius that it is. Beer Popsicles. You will need red solo cups and plastic silverware and some paper plates.

Ingredients:
  • Beer (any kind you like, I choose Blue Moon)
  • Honey (or agave nectar like the other recipe says, but I prefer honey)
  • Orange Juice (or lime juice as the other recipe says. Orange goes better with Blue Moon)

Pour the beer into the red solo cups. Add a table spoon of honey and some fresh squeezed orange juice. Stir until blended. Poke a hole in the center of the paper plate. Stick platic silverware through. Place on top of red cup. This is how we get the stick to stay in the center. Place in freezer for at least 4 hours, overnight is best.

The popsicle should slide right out of the cup when done, if not run it under warm water for a few seconds.

And enjoy!!

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer

All through college there was one motto when it came to drinking. Well, one that is still relevant. It's not alcoholism if you're still in college. Well folks, you're no longer in college. Now what is it called when you slam back 12 shots in a night?

We've all been binge drinking for years. And thought noting of it. But now that I'm out of college I'm noticing a lot more 24 and 25 year olds who go out and get shitty every night, then go to work still drunk or massively hungover. I might not thought anything of my drinking habits before, but now I see these people and know I don't want to be doing this still when I'm that age. I mean, maybe on a weekend once in a while, but blacking out 3 times a week at that age is pathetic. And is also likely alcoholism.

Now that we have graduated we are going to be judged for our drinking habits too. Curb them a little bit. There's nothing wrong with going out and having a good time, but is it really necessary to black out and pee yourself in your sleep on a friend's couch? I didn't think so. Be smart about it. You never know when you might see a co-worker while out, or meet someone who could potentially get you a job. Being able to hold your liquor is a great skill, having someone hold your hair back over the toilet is less attractive for the job market.
