Don't Think Twice

Yesterday I read in an article that Suze Rotolo had passed away. This name probably doesn't ring a bell for you... but how about Bob Dylan? I bet you've heard of that one! I'm not a huge Dylan fan, but I do love his song "Don't Think Twice It's Alright". He composed this haunting song after his girlfriend at the time, Suze Rotolo, left him to go to Italy.

I first heard the song during the very beginning of my freshman year in college. I was so nervous about what the next four years of college would bring. I was in a floundering relationship with my high school boyfriend, having a tough time meeting nice people, and just all around missing home. When I was sad, I would trek to the piano practice rooms in my college's music building and play this song to feel better. Five years later (and on the other side of my college education), I still flashback to those first months of school when I hear this Bob Dylan song.

If you're interested, I've attached the song below. Do you all have any songs that bring back such vivid memories? Tell us about them in the comments!

Workout Songs

After sitting at my desk all day, exercising makes me feel great! Sometimes I'm pretty grumbly about heading to the gym, but thankfully my Ipod is loaded with workout music that motivates me. I'm going to take a cue from Shikole here are give you some of my workout favorites!

Cee Lo Green- F*ck You (the clean version is called "Forget You"). Since I want to keep things clean here on this blog, here's a video of how Glee covered this awesome song. For all of you who aren't offended by a little cursing, check out the original song on your own :).

The White Stripes- Hotel Yorba

Lil Mama- G Slide

For Minor- Remember the Name (Just a warning before listening, there are a few profanities in this one!)

Top 5 Guilty Pleasure Songs

We all have them. Songs that are so bad that they are good. Or ones that are so catchy you can't help it. We sing along in the car when we think no one is watching. Our heads bob along when it comes on the radio in the grocery store. And when you're at the bar Saturday night there is no holding back.

My top 5 guilty pleasure songs are as follows:

  1. Ke$ha - Tik Tok. She had a water bottle full of whisky in her handbag. Remind you of freshman year in college much?
  2. LMFAO - Shots. Patron's on the rocks. 'Nuff said.
  3. Taylor Swift - Love Story. It gets me every time. So catchy I can't help but sing along.
  4. 3OH!3 - Don't Trust Me. So clever. "You tell your boyfriend, if he says he's got beef, that I'm a vegetarian and I ain't F*^#$%^ scared of him."
  5. Metro Station - Shake It. Totally had this song as my text tone for about a year.

Kilts and Corsets

By Shikole Struber

Allison previously mentioned festivals as a great part of October in post grad life. She is completely right. This past weekend I went to the Renaissance Festival, and the weekend before I attended the National Book festival. I must say the Ren Fest was a little better. So many costumes and weapons and beer and hard cider and jousting. There is fun for everyone! Unless you're the wench everyone is trying to drench.

Last weekend's Ren Fest theme was Celtic Music. So in honor of the Medieval Times and Celtic music, here is some DropKick Murphy's for you all to enjoy.

Rain Rain Go Away

By Shikole Struber

It's been a rainy day in the District. In keeping with our musical theme, I wanted to put forth a song that was appropriate for the weather but also happy. A dreary day is bad enough as it is. No sense listening to music that depresses you further. Enter Jack Johnson. Music perfect for many situations, especially for when stuck in the office and the rain is coming down.

What other music is good for a rainy day?

Sunday Lounging

By Shikole Struber

It's football season. Many are caught up in a game right now. (Not happy the Giants are losing) There's a lot of energy and emotional charge when watching the game. I prefer to lounge and relax on a Sunday. Here is one of the many songs that I like to listen to on the couch while reading a book on a Sunday afternoon.

Feel Like A Zombie Come Back To Life

By Shikole Struber

It's Friday. Thank the heavens. It's been a long, trying week, and there are just 5-6 hours until freedom. In honor of Friday, here is Usher's newest. "DJ got us fallin in love" is my new favorite. I listen to it on repeat during my commute. It's a fantastic pump up song.
